Texas mother accused of faking son's illness; boy had 13 "major" surgeries
"DALLAS – An 8-year-old Dallas boy may have endured hundreds of unnecessary doctor visits and more than a dozen pointless surgeries, after police believe his mother faked multiple illnesses, CBS DFW reports. Kaylene Bowen-Wright is charged with injury to a child and was jailed on $150,000 bond, the station reports.
An investigation by Child Protective Services (CPS) found she took her son, Christopher, to hospitals in Dallas and Houston with a variety of complaints, resulting in hundreds of medical appointments and more than a dozen surgeries. He's been on a feeding tube, confined to a wheelchair, developed a blood infection that landed him in the ICU, and has even spent time in hospice, according to Dr. Suzanne Dakil in an affidavit provided to the CPS investigator,
The agency's report indicated it was likely a case of Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, where a caregiver fakes or creates a child's symptoms to receive attention or other benefits."

Australian 'mommy blogger' accused of injecting her daughter with urine
" A "mommy blogger" is accused of harming her daughter by injecting her with urine in an attempt to get her doctor "to treat" the child, according to ABC in Australia.
The woman, who is not being identified by authorities, was apparently frustrated with her failed attempts to help the girl, who was born with a genetic illness. The mother's suspicious behavior goes back to 2008, the station reported."

"Brenna Winter, 18, is in Orange County jail facing attempted first–degree murder, battery by strangulation and aggravated child abuse charges after hospital workers caught the mom on camera trying to suffocate her 3–month–old daughter in June, the Orlando Sentinel reported."

"Investigators are looking into the possibility that Garnett was born healthy and that his mother had a disorder known as 'Munchausen syndrome by proxy,' in which a parent might harm his or her child to win sympathy, according to someone familiar with the case who requested anonymity. 'Everything that happened to him was a result of a conscious act by his mother,' the source said."
